The Thing (Anacropora)

$35.00

"The Thing" stands out with its electric, neon-green to yellow base and contrasting dark or pale polyps. Unlike many Acropora species, Anacropora do not have a terminal polyp at the very tip of the branch, giving them a slightly more rounded, "dripping" appearance as they grow. This specific Jason Fox lineage is prized for its high-fluorescence—it practically glows under heavy actinic (blue) lighting, making it a standout "pop" piece for any SPS-dominant or mixed reef.

Care Requirements

Anacropora are often considered the "bridge" between LPS and SPS corals. They are generally more tolerant of nutrient fluctuations than true Acropora, though they still require stability to thrive.

  • Care Level: Intermediate

  • Temperament: Peaceful (Note: The branches are relatively fragile, so handle with care during placement).

  • Lighting: Low to Moderate (PAR 150–250). Interestingly, "The Thing" often maintains better color in slightly lower light than high-end Acropora. Too much light can cause it to bleach or turn a pale yellow.

  • Water Flow: Medium / Indirect. Moderate flow is sufficient to keep the coral clean. Avoid "blasting" it with direct powerhead output, as the delicate branches can be prone to tissue damage.

  • Placement: Middle to Lower Tier. It does exceptionally well on lower rockwork where light is diffused.
